Icelandic Women Attorneys Association

The Icelandic Women Attorneys Associaton (FKL - Félag kvenna í lögmennsku) was founded on March 4th 2004 and is open for women members of the Icelandic Bar Association. Founding members were about 70 women attorneys.

Women attorneys are only 14% of all practicing attorneys in Iceland. The new association aims to strenghten the position of women in the law practice, make women as attorneys more visible in the society and within the legal field, encourage and be role-models for younger women graduating from university interested in making their career in the law practice and networking for women working in the law practice.

Members of the board are 7. There were about 10 women who initiated, prepared and arranged for the establishment of the association, beginning in October 2003.

FKL is a member society of the Service Department of Icelandic Bar Association
